Women in STEM//NYSCI

Surreal. That one word describes my return to the best science museum in Queens (possibly the only one,) as a guest speaker. I remember walking through its multifaceted exhibits as a child, fully engrossed with the rockets onsite in naive wonder. Some context: I grew up in the predominately Italian neighborhood of Corona in Queens, NY, where my childhood was filled with halcyon days of Italian ices, bocci ball and romps across Flushing Meadow Park. The neighborhood treasures were numerous yet the New York Hall of Science attracted me like a moth to a flame. I adored the explainers, a term used to call the employees made up of high school and college students, who engaged visitors as they traversed from one end of the museum to the other.
