ARTECHOUSE//Kingdom of Colors 11.27.2017

I have always gravitated toward multi-sensory art installations. Yayoi Kusama, Pipilotti Rist, Umberto Boccioni….my heart positively sings when I’m in the presence of dreamy, whimsical designs. I’ve painted a few watercolors in the past, (not very well though. You won’t find them in the National Gallery in this life or the next) and produced pieces that soften and blend the quotidian into fantastical, ethereal shapes. Or so i tell myself, ha!

Artechouse’s use of technology to amplify artistic reach isn’t unique; the New York Hall of Science, in collaboration with Design I/O, created a similar experience called Connected Worlds where museum-goers entered a vast room with its walls blanketed in projected images of a waterfall, rainforest, and other depictions of nature. Once inside, people were able to plant trees with a movement of their arms, divert the river using blocks and shape the malleable projections around them amid an interplay of lights and sounds.

My fascination with visually interactive art installations have led me to some fairly interesting//out of the way//remote spaces.

Another incredible Facebook Live experience in the bag! Sandro and Tati, the co-creators and curators of ARTECHOUSE, provided the New York Times with an exclusive look into their sold out show, Kingdom of Colors. Sandro is a gregarious, sweet soul originally form the country of Georgia. Tati is soft-spoken and well versed in the current installation housed in their first brick and mortar location in D.C. Kingdom of Colors is a collaborative work by artist Oilhack, French filmmaker Thomas Blanchard and composer Leonardo Villiger.

The visual projections mesh a fantastical world filled with vibrant hues, glitter amid the ebbing and flowing crescendo of string instruments.
